The earth trembles with the winds of change, igniting the fire within us
So we rise with the children at dawn, listening to their dreams, their stories, their fears - and they’re a reminder of our own.
We want them to hold on to all of their hope - it’s what we talk about watching the school busses go.
What will we tell them if we hadn’t tried all that we could?
What kind of ancestors do we want to leave when we go?
1975 - it’s time to rise - time to rise - time to rise.
Pull out the picket signs, well take it to the streets
It’s not because we are angry but it’s so we can sleep.
These demands that they read are all within reach
We stand as sisters, united as one. And
Together, we lead.
Together we rise.
what do we want?
We want universal child care 24 hours a day so our children are cared for without sacrificing our dignity. Our affinity is our viscidity, we are what the children see.
Eliminate the bigotry, sexism and dismal chivalry like token gestures when we’re headed to the post. And after the vote, the gestures float away... under the guise of budget cuts. Says the guys but enough is enough.
Women rise because we know our place. We’ll always rise because we are the change.
And we may not know what the future holds but we know we hold the future, so...
75 it’s time to rise. Time to rise.
We march for our rights - we do this out of love. And we will not stand for others making those decisions for us.
And so we use our lungs and we’ll keep on saying it. Until we are respected and the laws have changed. And for all of the oppression that we continue to endure. We’ll continue to march and for this we’re sure.
Our footprints will lead the path for generations. For all those who hear our struggles and for those who live it.
We rise with our sisters, our aunties, nieces, mothers and daughters.
For the women that led to 75, I hope they know they’ve saved so many lives.
Their solidarity precedes us and proves that sheer will is enough to rewrite the women’s role. They’ve lightened the load and took us out of the dark. And since 1975, we’ve continued to march.
