Sensory Integration Therapy is a technique that exposes children with sensory processing disorders, also known as "sensory integration disorder," to sensory input in a controlled, repetitive manner. According to the theory, the brain will change over time, allowing children to better comprehend and respond to stimuli.
Sensory Integration (SI) Treatment is provided by a well-trained Occupational Therapist (OT). Through a thorough assessment, the Occupational Therapist determines whether your child will benefit from Sensory Integration treatment. In traditional SI treatment, the OT exposes a child to sensory stimulation through repeated tasks. The idea is that your child's nervous system will respond to sensations and movement in a more "organized" manner through repetition.
