What is ASTM B164 UNS N04400 Rod?
ASTM B164 UNS N04400 is a nickel-copper alloy rod with excellent mechanical properties and resistance to corrosion, especially in seawater. Even in extreme temperatures, it has outstanding strength, ductility, weldability, formability, and toughness.
The ASTM B164 specification covers this alloy's solid solution heat-treated condition for use in high-temperature service applications. It has a minimum yield strength of 35 ksi (240 MPa) up to 2 inches (50 mm) thick sheet or plate and 32 ksi (220 MPa) for all other thicknesses.
Applications of ASTM B164 UNS N04400 Rod
ASTM B164 UNS N04400 Rods are used in many industries for their excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance qualities. They are often used in marine engineering applications such as shipbuilding, offshore oil rigs, oil platforms, and seawater systems due to their high corrosion resistance, even in seawater environments. Other common uses include chemical process equipment such as valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and storage tanks; food processing equipment; cryogenic applications; boilers and pressure vessels; nuclear fuel elements; turbine blades; medical components; aircraft parts; auto exhaust systems; fasteners; springs; and more.
Uses of ASTM B164 UNS N04400 Rod
ASTM B164 UNS N04400 rods have many uses due to their excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance qualities. They can be used for welding applications where hot cracking can be an issue due to their weldability traits or cold-formed into complex shapes with traditional forming methods like bending or rolling thanks to their formability traits.
They can also be machined from bar stock using conventional CNC cutting techniques since they have excellent machinability characteristics as well as being capable of being deep drawn into thin sheets due to their high ductility factor.
