EDUCATION

I once knew a quirky, ritualistic man with the IQ of a genius, the father of a friend whose house I spent much of my spare time at during the last years of high school. He was highly educated and utterly fascinating in his unending thirst for knowledge. He was also completely devoid of common sense.
We’d tack increasingly bold reminders above the laundry machines but without fail, clothes came out bleached, tie-dyed, or small enough to fit the family cocker spaniel. It seems this smart, quirky man could quote the laundry signs verbatim but hadn’t any idea how to put the instructions to use. His day to day life was fraught with similar difficulties.
Nowadays, when a pair of tie-dyed jeans reminds me of those times, I like to think I acquired a little bit of wisdom back then when I learned that without the required common sense, even the most knowledgeable will sometimes find it difficult to dress themselves.
