The packet of hot sauce sits on the table
The length of time it stews it's a game to guess
Flavor gone or still potent
We're wasteful in our casual put down
Is it only here that things are so easy
To throw to the side
That plastic packet, years of engineering
Sitting, waiting for waste
We are the lackluster species
Concerned with advancing comfort
What's the use of ultimate enlightenment
If we are all there is in the dark
Why can't we be the alien species
Searching through space and time
To fulfill the prophecies of those less advanced
To nurture them to intellectual prime
Why can't we sail through the stars
Expanding an empire of thought
Creating a connection
That exceeds any fictitious dream
Instead we destroy
No limit to that
Physical, emotional, old, and new
A hundred-thousand years from now
There we will be
Stewing in our greed
Not even worth a view
