As we know, learning English at an early age is essential today. That is why I leave you with a couple of tricks to encourage your interest in the language.
1) Never impose English by force
Children need to feel comfortable and have to see that it is something positive and fun. If we force them to talk, it will shut down and it will be very difficult for them to see it as a game.
You can talk while doing an activity with them, even if they don't say anything or answer when you ask them. It is a new language for them and therefore they must familiarize themselves with it patiently and constantly.
There are some basic phrases with which you can start to introduce them to English Tutoring Sydney
"Come here"
"Well done"
"I likethis ice cream"
"Today is Friday!"
Simple questions can be asked like:
"Would you like pasta?
"Where are your toys?"
2) Watch movies and cartoons in original version
If we adults should watch movies in the original version, children should do the same with their favorite cartoon series.
All animated series and movies can now be seen on any channel in their original version or you can purchase a DVD pack where you will always have the option of watching them in their original version.
You have the choice of choosing to put subtitles, although it is recommended not to do so to strengthen their hearing and also to relate words to the objects they are seeing.
You don't know what things they can learn by listening without you noticing!
3) Flashcars
The flashcards are photographs of objects that we show the child so that they can relate the word with the image that we present to them. The image must come with the word just below the drawing to make it easier
With the flashcards we can also review, for example, colors, numbers, etc.
It is not good to spend them 3 or 4 times repeating the new words, because you will make them get bored.
You can play with them like for example:
- a) Turn the flashcards over, once you have passed them all 2 times, and mix them up. Once this is done, we ask the child to pick one up and tell us what he sees.
- b) Another activity would be: Place the flashcards face up and say one of the words that appear. The boy has to go and get it.
4) Songs
Songs, from my point of view, are a fantastic method for them to learn vocabulary in a fun and happy way.
On the internet there are countless songs in English, some even with dances where children will have a blast and learn a lot.
You can also choose to play those songs while they are doing some activity, as background music.
You will realize that some of them will even hum them without realizing it.
5) Other methods
Other resources are the interactive pages so that they can play with both Tablets and computers. There are some recommended apps to continue gaining knowledge while playing:
Super Simple Songs: page with an infinite number of activities and games.
My little advice ends here. Put them into Oc Practice Test Preparation and you will tell me how they have worked for you.
