Stop for a minute - just take it in
This is a moment you won’t get again
Forgetting to breathe and walking real fast
Quite in a hurry to merely outlast
The competitor beside you
Who can do whatever you can do
Running a race where nobody really wins
Righting our wrongs, and confessing all our sins
Or making it look so to gain the advantage
Elbows up, no regrets, take out all you can manage
If you don’t eat, they will for sure
Destroying your spirit that once was pure
Most people don’t recognize you anymore
Hardened, abrasive, and lacking a core
Take me back to when we were us
Sunburns, Streetlights, Stereos, Surplus
Golden, we were golden
Road trips with no end
Fearless of life and immune to death
Long lived and life long until our dying breath
Breathing, yes we were breathing
The air we were stealing
Inflated our lungs and kept us from sleep
These were the summers we couldn’t keep
Can you remember what it was like
Running out of gas, so we were forced to hitchhike
Or getting caught in the rain with zero material possessions
That’s not you anymore, at least I am getting that impression
Could you do me favour before you say no
Meet me tomorrow at the Dine-&-Go
Leave your hate and your anger, your walls and your pain
We’ll drive off and stay gone until we’re happy again
