In Sunday School many of us learned that original sin came about because a naughty girl took a bite out of a forbidden apple.

As an adult I sometimes wonder if Eve got a bad rap. This is not a debate nor a commentary on whether the Garden of Eden actually existed – let's leave that up to each of us to weigh in on.

The question that begs an answer is this: Was it the masculine hands penning the verses in the bible that condemned Eve for giving into temptation?

And as a result, is it the same masculine hands that predetermined what challenges women would have to face through the centuries that followed? For no woman, regardless of her accomplishments, will ever escape being identified with and compared to Eve.

I have to wonder what the world would look like if it was Adam's hairy hand that had reached for that forbidden fruit.
