It was a dark night, earlier than usual. But that happens at this time of year, I think. I was out for a walk I believe, and heading for a friend’s house. Who, I couldn’t say. Halfway down the empty, gloomy road, I saw a figure at a crossroads. From my distance, the shape was hard to describe. After a few more steps, I realized it was a person, and a girl at that.
She looked about 16 years old, pretty sure the same age as me. She had long black hair, and from my angle, lack eyes too. She wore a tight red top and tight black pants, leather I think. When I reached the crossroads, I noticed she was closer to the left side then the centre. I started walking to the right side of the fork, heading to my friend’s house. But I felt I needed to stay. I wanted to know this girl’s story, and why she stood there.
I walked to the left, and started to close in on her. Suddenly, she spoke. “What’s your hurry to go that way stranger?” Shaking off my initial shock, I replied, “I’m heading to see a friend, he’s expecting me” She smiled, looking as if she expected that very reply. “They all say that. Come with me, I can show you the world.”
I was puzzled. Here I stood, contemplating which way to go. On the right, a friend that was expecting my arrival. On the left, an alluring lady that offered me so much.
“I really shouldn’t,” I said, “My friend expects me and I don’t want to disappoint him.”
She didn’t reply, instead she stepped forward. I did not know what to expect. I could easily have started walking back the to the right path, yet felt obliged to move forward as well. The, unexpectedly, she kissed me, her red lips pressing against mine deeply. She pulled away, and stepping back, said, “Come with me, and that may be just the beginning.”
I flinched. This was wrong. I didn’t know what to do. Should I trust my gut or this girl? I stepped back, looking down each lonely road. One held a friend and one held the unknown world of this woman. I turned and spoke, my loyalty shining through. “Look, I made a promise, I trust my friend and he trusts me to come to him. I’m taking his path and leaving yours.”
I started down the road, on the path I’d chosen in the first place. Halfway there, I turned. Where the girl had stood now held the angry figure of Lucifer. He knew what path I chose and it wasn’t his. And as I reached my friends white lit home at the gates of Heaven, I knew I’d made the right choice.
