While researching statistics on the topic of unprotected sex amongst divorcees I came across a quote by Brogan Driscoll in a piece he wrote for Huffington Post UK. It read, "The German for "contraceptive" is Schwangerschaftsverhütungsmittel. By the time you've finished saying it, it's too late."
Although I had a good laugh, the sobering truth is that there are a good many people out there, statistics aside, under the assumption that unprotected sex is somehow safer after the dissolution of a long marriage. The bad news is that anyone, at any age, who isn't practicing safe sex is putting themselves at risk. It can be awkward bringing up the topic of sexual history over dessert while on a date with someone you've recently met. I've been there, and my advice would be - bring a condom. Anyone freshly back on the dating scene should ask themselves to heed the same advice they preach to their children on STD's, condoms and yes, even unplanned pregnancy. We are, after all, adults - still young enough to be wild and crazy - but old enough to know better.
