Fortress

The body remembers what the brain hides, when I try to confide;
I lost my pride in the lines on my thighs.
I tried to tell you, show you what I was holding, but it slipped away in the winds of ages,
Flipping the pages,
Swirling,
Tumbling,
Twisting like snow and leaves when the seasons meet.
Please don't make me repeat my speech of defeat.
I must retreat to erect the walls I built around you.
From my window I saw the bricks crumbling away, turning to dust in my eyes.
Squinting,
It looked the same: a dream, a memory.
