Sky News host Alan Jones believes the Australian public “are entitled to worry” whether the nation is turning into a police state saying imposed coronavirus regulations “owes more to Russia than it does to Australia”.
On Tuesday Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews instructed Victorians not to visit loved ones or partners who live at a different place of residence, asking them to consider whether making social calls is "worth a life".
"That's not work. That's not care-giving. That's not medical care. That's not shopping for the things you need - it does not comply with the rules so people should not do that," he had said.
While in New South Wales, residents face a fine of up to $11,000 or six months in prison if they are repeat offenders breaking social-isolation restrictions.
Mr Jones said the new measures represent “authority gone drunk”.
“People are entitled to worry about what this all means, at a time when there is already too much to worry about”.
“The rules were implemented via regulation, not legislation, which means they were not debated in parliament and were not subject to possibly sensible amendments”.
He said the new NSW regulations “treats us as if we are all either completely stupid or servants of the state”.
“Coronavirus cannot be allowed to destroy democracy,” he said.
