Why do politicians lie?
You may as well ask
Why storm clouds
Produce rain.
It is the stuff of which
They are made.
A better question may be
Why do we believe
Their insincerity?
We hope without hope
This time will be
So different.
The result is we are
Inevitably fooled again.
