Dawning Day

Steps forward, into black
Each a searing crushing moan
Against the terror in my heart.
Nothing gained, all lack.
But is it? Emptyness
Is what I was, and now
I pour my nothing into steps
Tiny steps, from the abyss.
Light trembles away
In the distance; each step
A momentary death, but
Each death's a dawning day.
