Fear is not real. It is simply the product of the thoughts you create.
Everyone in the room is afraid.
They have been afraid and have either walked over that bridge,
Or they have let it crumble them,
Like dirt under someone’s boot.
You’re afraid, because you have to get up here and perform your poem next.
You're afraid, because you might fail that math test.
Others are afraid of not being their best,
Some people are afraid of their own thoughts,
Afraid to be who they really are,
Some are afraid of not being loved,
Not being enough.
Fear is idea-crippling, life-crushing, success-cracking,
And its inflicted only by yourself.
When fear tears you down,
When it rips your hopes and dreams apart like a wolf eating its prey,
When it hurts your success and ruins your day,
When that little thought in your head,
Says over and over again,
That you cant do it
You will never win,
That you will fail if you try,
When it tells you that no one wants you,
No one loves you,
You can’t believe it,
And when your knees shake,
And your head aches,
And your heart pounds,
You need to remember,
That there is no glory without guts.
Fear is like a tunnel.
Its dark. And dreary. And dank.
Every little sound makes you jump,
But right as you are about to give up,
There is a light,
And it is as bright,
As happiness on a child’s face on Christmas morning.
Some won’t make it,
But you, you have to make it.
I hope that when the ocean gets rough, you don't quit.
You have to get up.
I hope that if a fire starts and everyone runs away,
You chose to stay.
You have to keep going.
And i hope that it keeps showing,
That no matter how slow you are going,
You will always get where you wanna go,
As long as you don't let fear show,
You’ll be okay.
That feeling you get when you walk into the light,
When you are finally where you wanna be.
You put up such a fight,
And that feeling,
It warms you like the sun shining on a warm day,
Like a crackling camp fire warming your face.
Its a feeling of success,
Like you can do anything.
But maybe,
Just maybe,
People should stop looking for the light at the end of the tunnel long enough,
To find their courage in the darkness first.
Some don’t make it to the light,
Their fear holds them in too tight.
Like a prison,
Against your will,
Like a ride on a roller coaster,
Their fear holds them captive,
It chokes them like their is a rope around their neck,
And haunts them as if their fear had the power to hold something over them,
And it does.
It has the power to hold your courage over you.
It holds it just out of your reach,
Fear is laughing in your face,
You can see it dangling there,
And fear doesn’t care that it is
Just past your fingertips,
Barely out of reach,
If you could just reach half an inch farther,
You could take the only power that fear holds against you.
Fear tears you down.
And courage gives you the power to look fear in the face and say:
“I’m not afraid of you.”
But fear shouldn’t shut you down,
It should wake you up,
You just need to learn,
What it means to overcome your fears,
To reach that half an inch,
And take what is yours.
You should use the power of fear to live,
The urge to live is stronger than any other human emotion,
And if you use it right,
Fear can be your friend.
Fear shows you the danger in things.
It gives you a choice of doing something special,
And overcoming your fears,
And simply choosing something that may bring tears,
But would you rather try and fail?
Or fail to try all together.
Just remember,
In the end, everything always works out.
Everything you want is on the other side of fear.
Go out there and take it,
Don’t let fear rule you,
Let it drive you to success.
