This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In an effort to break the cycle of isolation and depression, Colin Easton made a commitment to himself. A simple commitment to leave his apartment every single day. Soon that personal challenge would become very public.
Listen as Easton talks about how he started to break free from his darkness, with the help of strangers.
What started as a personal social experiment has led Colin Easton on a life-changing and very public journey. Writer, hobby photographer and avid people watcher, Colin Easton is the creator of The Stranger Project 2014. Based in Vancouver BC, Colin goes out into the city streets and meets one stranger each day, taking the time to find out each stranger’s story. Colin then writes about the encounter and shares it via his website and social media. “It’s about connection,” says Colin. “I wanted to see what would happen if I stopped walking past people and actually started to reach out and try to connect with strangers. To open my mind, my heart, and just listen – free from the judgement we so often carry around.” Read more about The Stranger Project at www.thestrangerproject.ca.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
