OTHER RELATIONSHIPS

Having gone years without a family pet, I could not fathom why someone would dress their dog up in sweaters and booties. When I heard my neighbors talk about their Doggy Daycare I giggled and snorted. It wasn’t until we got Suki, the Bichon Frise, that I was reminded of the kind of bond that is forged when a human and a dog take up residence together.
I came down with a terrible bout of flu the day after we brought Suki home. I lay on a blanket on the floor so he wouldn’t be lonely, and as confused as that little dog was, he took care of me those first few days with cuddles and the occasional lick to my feverish face, letting me know I wasn’t alone. With his help I recovered quickly. Then I went out and purchased sweaters, matching collar and leash, and yes, I even purchased the booties. And then I cried on his first day of Doggy Daycare.
Trust me – when you hear it said that pets are good for your health, Suki and I are proof.
