Production Planning and Scheduling,

Production planning is a function of determining the overall level of output, called the production plan. The process also includes any other activities needed to meet the currently planned level of sales while meeting the firm's overall goals for profit, productivity, delivery times, and customer satisfaction as expressed in the overall business plan. The managerial goal of production planning is to develop an integrated game plan where the operational part is the production plan. This production plan should then link the firm's strategic goals to operations (production functions) as well as coordinate operations with sales goals, resource availability, and financial budgets.
