Car manufacturers often play on nostalgia especially with people who are ready to pay a lot of money for a car that causes nostalgia. Here are 10 examples of fast cars from the past that have been reborn in modern times.
1. Nissan Z
The new Z has lost any numerical indexes but has gained an expressive front end and silhouette in the style of the original Datsun 240Z, as well as a retro-futuristic stern reminiscent of the 300ZX. And even though this beauty hides the same FM platform on which the previous 370Z was built, and a number of other rear-wheel-drive models of the company, such as the Nissan Stagea (M35) and the Infiniti Q50, you should not think that the new product is just a large-scale restyling of the 370Z. The new body is stiffer, the suspension uses different components, and the steering has been re-tuned.
The Z's engine is completely new, replacing the 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V6 with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that produces 405 horsepower. It still has two gearboxes (manual and automatic), and three wells with additional devices on the center console. The interior is completely different from the interior of the 370Z.
At first, Nissan Z will be sold only in the States, later versions for other countries will appear, primarily in Japan.
2. Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4
But the Nissan Z isn't the only one that will soon be cruising the east and west coasts of the United States. Surely, somewhere in Florida, millionaires who have made the purchase of a new Countach are already languishing with expectations. The neon 1980s are back! But earlier Lamborghini representatives claimed that they were not interested in remakes of old models - and that is why the new Miura, created by Walter de Silva, did not receive a continuation.
But it looks like the management has decided to reconsider its principles. Or in Santa Agata, they simply decided to arrange a magnificent farewell for the Aventador chassis. Indeed, like all twelve-cylinder Lamborghinis of recent years, the new Countach is built around a carbon-fiber Aventador monocoque, which defines the characteristic shape of the windshield and side windows.
But the base for the revived Countach was not the Aventador itself, but the limited-edition Sian supercar, from which the novelty inherited not only the taillights but also a hybrid power plant consisting of an atmospheric 6.5-liter V12 and an electric motor powered by a supercapacitor. The total power of the power plant is 815 horsepower.
The new Countach is much faster than the original. The new Countach will cost at least two million euros.
3. Kimera EVO37
Although the circulation of the Kimera EVO37 is only 37 copies, and the cost of the sports car is noticeably less than that of the Countach (from 480 thousand euros), so far not all cars have found their owners.
To create the modern Rallye 037, just like 40 years ago, the Lancia Monte Carlo chassis is being prepared, in which modern components made of aluminum and composite materials are being introduced: the double-wishbone suspension received adjustable Ohlins dampers, and the outdated Monte Carlo brakes have been replaced with a modern system from Brembo.
Aurelio Lampredi, the minder who built the engines for the Group B Lancia racing cars, was involved in the construction of the 2.2-liter Kimera power plant, which develops about 550 horsepower.
The Kimera EVO37 is equipped with a manual transmission, has a rear-axle drive, and also pleases with spectacular shapes that emphasize the classic four-eyed "look". Not surprisingly, the car has become one of the show stoppers of the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
4. Legende Turbo 3
As with the Kimera, the Turbo 3 is based on a relatively inexpensive car - a regular first-generation Renault 5. To make a Turbo 3, the car is completely disassembled, a roll cage, a new suspension is installed, a 400-horsepower engine is mounted behind the rear seats and the resulting mix is dressed up in a wide carbon body with modern LED optics.
Like the original Turbo, the novelty received different-sized and wide-ranging wheels (front 8x16 inches, rear - 11x17), a manual transmission (although a sequential machine is also available as an option). And, again like the original, the Turbo 3 has an insane interior - albeit already modern, with dual-zone climate control and a digital dashboard
5. Radford Lotus Type 62-2
Type 62-2 is a tribute to the 1969 model that Lotus produced in a small run. In the best traditions, the supercar turned out to be very light (dry weight - exactly 1000 kilograms). And, presumably, very fast: a 3.5-liter V6 with a compressor produces 500 or 600 horsepower - depending on the version. The gearbox also depends on the performance: if the 500-horsepower version can be chosen either with a robotic gearbox or with a "mechanics", then the older version is exclusively a seven-speed "robot".
Type 62-2 will be produced in California. The first copies will be handed over to customers at the beginning of 2022. The circulation of the novelty will be 62 copies.
6. Iso Rivolta GTZ
The modern Rivolta is based on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in the C7 body. The car is disassembled to the ground, after which new body panels, new lighting equipment and new rims are installed on it. The compressor V8, which develops over 670 horsepower, remains unchanged. And the interior does not differ much from the usual Corvette.
Each copy of the Rivolta GTZ is estimated at at least a million dollars. The amount includes not only the donor car and complete transformation but also an extensive customization program.
7. Ford F-150 Lightning
The reborn F-150 Lightning has become an electric car! And it is capable of such indicators only in the flagship version with 571 hp. and 1050 Nm of torque. The electronic instrument panel and the SYNC 4A multimedia complex, Lightning will receive, regardless of the version chosen. As well as the spacious trunk, which appeared in the place of the internal combustion engine.
Prices for the F-150 Lightning start at $ 40,000, while a variant with powerful electric motors, an enlarged battery, and advanced equipment will cost twice as much. Acceptance of orders in the USA has already started: to get in line, you need to make a deposit of one hundred dollars. You can also lease ford before buying it to understand if that’s the car you really need.
8. Ford Mustang Mach 1
In 1968, Ford released the Mach 1 sports package for the Mustang. Additional equipment offered exclusively for fastbacks included not only "decorations", such as stripes and a hood with a Shaker air intake, but also the most powerful V8 engines, reconfigured suspension with stiffer shock absorbers.
The Mach 1 entered the scene for the second time in the early 2000s, with the fourth-generation Mustang. And in 2021, after 17 years of absence, the iconic modification returns to the lineup to please those who want a fast and manageable muscle car, but are not ready to overpay for the ultimate Shelby GT350R and GT500.
The new Mach 1 is powered by the Coyote family's five-liter V8 engine that produces 487 horsepower. The same engine was used on the Mustang Bullit. There are a lot of elements here from Shelby models: the GT350 shared the intake manifold and six-speed "mechanics", and the GT500 shared the rear diffuser. Outside, there is a body kit in the style of the original Mach 1, which becomes even more aggressive with the Handling package.
