A Whisper in the Middle of the Night

The path snaked through a wooded sea
As I walked guided by starlight,
When suddenly a chill ran through me-
I heard a whisper in the middle of the night.
An angel sweetly, softly calling
Whispered gently in my ear.
Was it imagination or did she call me darling?
With soothing voice that calmed my fear.
Echoing voice from all around,
And searching high and low as best I could,
She was nowhere to be found-
And I was lost in tangled wood.
But then fate chose to play its hand
Just as I thought that she was nearing.
The road forked off to a different land,
As I stepped into a clearing.
Now the road upon which my travel leads
Takes me far from the memory of an unseen sight,
Just a voice come and gone like the wind through the weeds-
Like a whisper in the middle of the night.
