LOVE

My life has been blessed with a number of defining romances, no matter how tenuous or tumultuous they turned out to be. I learned about commitment and heartbreak, and eventually I came to the conclusion that sometimes walking away is the only way to fix things. The one thing I never managed to master, however, was how to truly love someone, in part because I didn’t know what love was. Mostly, though, because I was trying too hard to fit someone else's vision of the ideal woman.
When that changed, there was no “AHA” moment like you see in the movies. It happened gradually and quite by accident, actually. Once I took the time to be authentic and accepting of who I am, faults and all, I became less concerned with who I needed to be in order to be loved. Perhaps this taught me to be kinder, more tolerant. And maybe, just maybe, this is what attracted the kind, tolerant, loving partner I now share my life with.
