No one will remember me;
now this fact I clearly see.
The four years here have gone so fast,
and I cannot go to the past.
I will not write my younger self–
to sit in some book upon my shelf,
to go until too late unread,
to go till hopes of dreams are dead.
Instead I write this down for you–
the young, the old, the dull, the true–
all you have to live is now,
and if that you will live it somehow–
so live what time you are given well.
Remember for whom tolls the bell.
Learn from what is my mistake–
strive to live for Another's sake.
There is only one life worth living,
and I pray God is so forgiving
as to let me live it yet,
though most till now has been regret:
That life I pray you live is this–
to man, a light; to God, a kiss.
No matter if you are small or great,
if all you are is second rate,
look beyond yourself and know,
that I would not vainly tell you so–
tell you that there can be a change–
it is not yet so out of range.
No fault is too far past renewing,
even if there may be no undoing.
The past is passed and now will, too–
so be a dreamer, see and do.
Love because you were loved first,
forgive because we all are cursed.
Be active in your doing right;
hold fast that Fortress in the night.
Do not give up when all is down,
pray for the people in your town.
Seek out your brother while he is there,
for not a moment is to spare!
And also wait for what is pure–
only such love will endure.
The friend you want, you have to be.
I know because I am lonely.
Do not forget how you are blessed;
do not forget your strength in rest.
And dream those dreams that are far too great,
for someone just so second rate–
they are worth it when they are right,
worth the crying in the night,
worth the boring, worth the fight.
And if all you are is a tiny light,
then know that as you are not out,
there is reason to walk about,
to dance and smile and often cry,
to live because we all will die.
To change the world is not to say,
that you will rule it for a day;
you may never have it all to give,
but you can give all in what you live.
For what is worth it give it all,
and walk out your steps no matter how small.
May God catch you when you fall,
and may He hear you when you call.
He will use you if you allow,
if before Him you will bow,
I promise you that this is true–
He will work something great in you.
