The Legacy of Kinetic Engineering Limited
Kinetic Engineering Limited stands as a testament to over five decades of innovation, excellence, and a relentless pursuit of quality in the automotive sector. As one of India’s foremost auto parts manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEM), Kinetic Engineering has continually evolved, driven by a passion for engineering and a commitment to transforming the automotive landscape.
A Visionary Beginning
Our legacy dates back more than 50 years when our founder, Late Mr. H.K. Firodia, identified the pressing need for affordable, reliable transportation for the common man in India. This visionary insight led to the creation of the iconic Kinetic Luna, a product that became synonymous with accessibility and practicality, selling in crores in the 1980s. Kinetic Luna not only defined a generation but also marked the dawn of Kinetic Engineering as an OEM in the Indian automotive industry.
With the foundation laid by Mr. Firodia, his son, Padmashri Dr. Arun Firodia, took the reins, shaping Kinetic Engineering into the powerhouse it is today. The company's journey began with a modest investment of Rs. 15 Lakhs, but with a grand vision. The directive was clear: to create a product that was fully Made in India, built using Indian machinery, weighing under 50 kg, and priced below Rs. 2000. This vision gave birth to Kinetic Engineering Limited, headquartered in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. The facility, sprawling over 50 acres, included 26 manufacturing sheds and became the breeding ground for some of India’s most significant automotive innovations.
A Pioneer in Innovation and Manufacturing Excellence
Kinetic Engineering’s vertical integration set it apart in the automotive industry. With in-house manufacturing of engines, gearboxes, chassis, and systems for heat treatment, painting, and plating, the company was able to offer a level of control and quality that was unmatched. This integration allowed us to manufacture up to 2000 Kinetic Luna units per day during the 1980s, marking the start of a revolution in India’s automotive sector.
The company’s commitment to excellence continued to shape its success. In addition to Kinetic Luna, Kinetic Engineering launched several other pioneering products, such as the Kinetic Spark, Safari, Pride, Style, and Velocity scooters, and the Geared King 100 motorcycle.
Kinetic Engineering's collaboration with Hyosung of Korea was another milestone in its legacy, resulting in the launch of the Aquila 260cc V-Twin and the Comet motorcycle. These products marked Kinetic Engineering as an innovator not just in India, but also in international markets.
A Strategic Partnership with Honda
A significant chapter in Kinetic Engineering's history was the formation of Kinetic Honda Motor Company in 1986, a joint venture with Honda Motor Company. This partnership, lasting until 1998, led to the launch of India’s first CVT scooter, the Kinetic Honda DX. Kinetic Engineering’s CVT technology and manufacturing capabilities for engines, gearboxes, and other critical components played a crucial role in the success of this partnership.
The collaboration allowed Kinetic to introduce cutting-edge technology into India’s automotive market while simultaneously strengthening its position as a leading auto parts manufacturer. Through this partnership, Kinetic Engineering became the first company in India to export automobiles to the United States, further solidifying its reputation as a world-class OEM.
The Evolution into Auto Components and Electric Vehicles
As the automotive industry evolved, so did Kinetic Engineering. Transitioning from its iconic vehicles to an emphasis on auto components manufacturing, the company leveraged its technical expertise to diversify its offerings. Today, Kinetic Engineering is a dominant player in the auto parts manufacturing sector, producing a wide range of components that cater to global and domestic markets.
From forgings, gears, shafts, and gearboxes to rigid axles and chassis for electric vehicles, Kinetic Engineering’s vertically integrated facility continues to set industry standards. As the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) grows, Kinetic Engineering is actively involved in developing EV components for 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of the next automotive revolution.
A Future Built on a Rich Legacy
Kinetic Engineering’s journey has been as dynamic as the industry it serves. From its groundbreaking vehicles like Kinetic Luna and Kinetic Honda to its cutting-edge auto components, the company has built a legacy of innovation, engineering excellence, and manufacturing capabilities. With a network of over 1000 dealers across India and a strong export footprint, Kinetic Engineering is positioned as a key player in the global automotive landscape.
The company’s legacy is not just about the products it has created, but also the values it has instilled – a commitment to quality, cost competitiveness, and innovation. As Kinetic Engineering continues to expand its portfolio, focusing on electric vehicle components, driveline products, and automotive assemblies, it remains dedicated to advancing the future of mobility.
Kinetic Engineering stands ready to charge ahead, building on its rich history and embracing the challenges and opportunities that the next 50 years of automotive innovation will bring. With a legacy of excellence and a vision for the future, Kinetic Engineering is proud to continue its journey as one of India’s leading auto parts manufacturers and OEMs.
