Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has alleged that Israel's new government is attempting to bring down the Palestinian Authority (PA). This allegation comes after Israel approved measures that would punish the internationally recognised body for pushing the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to make a judgement on Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories. Shtayyeh further commented that these steps, which are meant to "push the PA to the brink, financially and institutionally," are a severe threat to the stability of what remains of the PA's control over the region. This is only the latest in a long history of Israel's efforts to undermine the PA, including withholding taxes the PA is owed, illegal settlements, and violent incursions by their forces.
