Love's Quest

She was a calm deep pool of water
Her suface glittering in the sunlight
But with depths that were unfathomable
And secret wishes that she never exposed
He was the wind-whipped ocean
Crashing relentlessly against the rocks
Always needing to consume more
Never quite grasping all that he sought
Her mysteriousness entranced him
Beckoning him to seek peace
From his never-ending pursuit
Of something he could not name
In stillness she waited and yearned
But she knew she could only watch
As he sought to appease
The demons that drove him
Her battles had been fought
Her peace a treasured reward
In her heart she knew
His journey must be his own
And she prayed
He would not shatter against the rocks
