Day 1: "Sit" – The Foundation of Obedience
Start with "Sit," one of the easiest puppy training commands. Hold a treat near your pup’s nose, then slowly raise it upward. As their head follows, their bottom will naturally lower. Say "Sit!" and reward immediately. Repeat 5-10 times per session.
Day 2: "Stay" – Teaching Self-Control
Once your puppy masters "Sit," introduce "Stay." Ask them to sit, then hold your palm out and say "Stay." Take a small step back. If they hold position, reward them! Gradually increase distance and duration.
Day 3: "Come" – Essential for Safety
This command keeps your pup safe. Say "Come!" in an excited tone while gently guiding them toward you with a leash or treat. Reward big when they respond!
Day 4: "Down" – Encouraging Calm Behaviour
Lure your puppy into a lying position by moving a treat from their nose to the floor. Say "Down" and reward when they comply.
Day 5: "Leave It" – Preventing Trouble
Place a treat in your closed hand. When your puppy sniffs or paws at it, say "Leave it." Only reward when they back off.
Quick Tips for Success:
- Keep sessions short (5-10 mins) and fun.
- Use high-value treats for motivation.
- Be patient and consistent—every pup learns at their own pace.
