FAITH

We all need something to believe in. Something that gives us reassurance that we aren’t alone. If I’m religious I might believe in Jehovah, or Buddha, or God. If I were an atheist I might believe in love, or democracy, or the Prime Minister. I’ve heard it said many times that it all comes down to believing there is something greater than us out there, but when you ponder it long enough, you might come to the conclusion that in the grand scheme of things, humans are pretty insignificant, with or without religion.
If I need something greater than myself to believe in, all I need do is Google astronomy, or evolution, or the miracle of reproduction. The reason I don’t is simple. None of those things speak to me (albeit silently), or hear my musings, hear my prayers. Those things can’t watch over me, they can’t see the struggles, and they can’t witness the triumphs, or my journey to being a better person. I might not define my “something greater” by a name. But I have faith it exists, somewhere out there.
