Because of its many wonderful characteristics, including its lush, hilly environment, turquoise oceans, friendly locals, and its diverse and rich culture, Roatan is frequently referred to as the pearl of the Caribbean. It's also never been simpler to get to paradise thanks to direct international flights from Houston, Miami, Dallas Toronto, and more! Going scuba diving should be at the top of your "must do" list when you visit Roatan because of its incredible reefs and marine life, which are, of course, its claim to fame. Here are three excellent reasons why we believe you should go scuba Diving In Roatan.
The dive locations are really close together.
The entire island can be considered one big dive site because the reef begins just a few hundred feet from the surface. We can reach over 70 Roatan Dive Sites from West End alone within a two to 20-minute boat ride, allowing us to spend more time diving and less time on the boat. Due to the proximity of the dive sites to the dive centers, the majority of dive shops offer single tank trips. This gives you the option of one, two, or three dives per day and allows you to spend your surface intervals relaxing on the beach with a cold lemonade (or beer, but only after diving!) in your hand.
You don't need to repeat them
The advantage of having so many dive sites nearby is that you don't have to repeat any sites unless you specifically ask to. It goes without saying that you will duplicate some dive locations on Roatan Dive Sites Map if you make more than 70 dives out of West End, but it's extremely simple to add variation to your diving experience. There are many interesting topographies and places to explore, including sand chutes, coral plateaus, and little walls in the West Bay region as well as cool canyons and steep cliffs as you travel towards Sandy Bay.
Diving on a thriving reef in a marine park that is protected
Ten years ago, a grassroots initiative to give more protection to the Honduran government's existing marine reserve gave birth to the Roatan Marine Park. The Roatan Marine Park has been fighting for ten years, but the results of their efforts are now clearly visible.
Make sure you support the Roatan Marine Park by buying Roatan Dive Packages with Dive Centers who are sponsors of the park since the organization's ongoing conservation efforts will help protect our stunning reef for many more years to come.
