Welcome to Onlinenakshatra Podcast, where we bring you insights and discussions on various festivals and events celebrated in Hindu culture. Today, we will be delving into the significance and traditions of Devshayani Ekadashi.
Devshayani Ekadashi, also known as Ashadi Ekadashi or Shayani Ekadashi, falls on the 11th day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Ashadha. It marks the beginning of Chaturmas, a four-month period considered highly auspicious for spiritual practices.
As the name suggests, Devshayani Ekadashi is believed to be the day when Lord Vishnu goes to sleep for four months in the cosmic ocean, known as the Devshayani or the sleeping posture. It is said that during this time, the earth is in a state of deep slumber, and all auspicious ceremonies and religious activities are postponed until the end of Chaturmas.
On this day, devotees fast and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu to seek his blessings for a peaceful and prosperous life. Special rituals and pujas are also performed in temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and the holy scripture Vishnu Sahasranamam is chanted.
Devshayani Ekadashi is not only a day of fasting and devotion, but it also signifies the importance of rest and rejuvenation in our lives. It reminds us to take a break from our busy schedules and reconnect with our spiritual selves.
As we celebrate Devshayani Ekadashi, let us embrace the message of introspection and renewal it brings. Thank you for tuning in to our podcast, and we hope you have a blessed and fulfilling day ahead.
