DANGER

If you’ve ever driven in the highway fast lane stuck behind a motorist doing 20 km under the speed limit, you’ll know how frustrating it can be. If you’re the motorist who drives 20 km under the speed limit, you may even be acquainted with the term “Road Rage”. We see it everywhere now, fast lane or not; people tail-gating and shaking their fists, laying on their horns and spewing obscenities from the open windows of their vehicles, posing as much potential for collision as the person holding up traffic.
In June of 2015 British Columbia introduced legislation to address the problem of left lane road hogs. Instead of cracking down on road rage by imposing more stringent, yet hard to enforce aggressive driving laws, the government decided to tackle one root of the problem by enacting a law that requires motorists to keep right and let others pass. Whether this is the best approach, I do not know. Angry drivers may just transfer their rage elsewhere. I sincerely hope this pro-active approach will take some of the danger off our highways. I plan to do a lot of travelling this year – in the right hand lane.
