Julien "Orteil" Thiennot, a French programmer, invented the incremental game Cookie Clicker in 2013. The user first clicks on a big cookie that appears on the screen, earning one cookie for each click. Then, they may spend the cookies they have earned to buy items like "cursors" and other "buildings" that generate cookies on their own. Additionally, there are upgrades that may increase the effectiveness of clicks, structures, and a variety of additional elements that let the player earn cookies in various ways. There is no typical conclusion to the game.
There is a devoted fan following for the game. Despite being created in one night, Cookie Clicker is often updated. It has been characterized as addicting and is attributed with contributing to the rise of idle gaming.
The user first clicks on a big cookie, receiving one cookie for each click. The player may purchase further tools of production with these cookies, including cursors, grandmothers, farms, mines, factories, banks, temples, and many others that produce cookies on their own. Each asset costs 15% more than the last-purchased item of the same kind as prices rise exponentially. Additionally, the player has the option to enhance these structures to produce more cookies. Golden cookies are little cookies that arrive occasionally and fade away in random spots after a few seconds. If clicked on before they vanish, they may give benefits like a brief rise in production rate.
The player may 'ascend' after earning a particular amount of cookies, losing their progress but gaining heavenly chips and prestige levels. In contrast to heavenly chips, which may be used to purchase a broad range of prestige improvements, prestige levels permanently increase the pace of cookie creation (+1% every level) in subsequent playthroughs. However, the quantity of cookies required to unlock the next prestige level increases proportionately with the level's cube, making it increasingly difficult to get as more are amassed. Other game mechanics include Krumblor the Cookie Dragon, mini games, "wrinklers" (eldritch beasts that reduce cookie production but can be popped by clicking, returning all the cookies it digested with interest), and sugar lumps (which take 24 hours to coalesce and are used to level up buildings and boost their production rate). You may unlock achievements by achieving certain activities or objectives, such as producing a specific amount of cookies overall, acquiring a specific number of a given sort of structures, or clicking a specific number of golden cookies. The user may choose from a variety of milk colors that display underneath the cookie after they have unlocked a specific amount of milestones. The player receives more output via "kitten" upgrades based on their overall accomplishments. Additionally, seasonal events that take place around the time of their respective holidays provide extra improvements and cookies to be unlocked.
The game incorporates geometric growth: the player starts by making a single cookie but may fast reach billions of cookies[1] and finally achieve duodecillions (1039) or more. Although there is no apparent conclusion to the game,[2] it includes over 500 achievements,[3] and players may strive to accumulate certain quantity of cookies.[4]
