Customized DWDM Mux Demux CWDM was firstly developed as a WDM technology to increase the bandwidth of an optical fiber by multiplexing several wavelengths (or colors) onto it. CWDM Mux Demux have long been widely used as the most cost-effective and budget saving method for SDH (STM-1, STM-4, STM-16, STM- 64), IP (Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit) ATM and storage (1G, 2G, 4G, 8G, 10G Fiber Channel) networks. However, a CWDM network only supports up to 18 different channel wavelength, and CWDM transmission distance is shorter than DWDM because standard amplifier cannot cover all the CWDM operating wavelength. Network operators must optimize their network infrastructure if they hope to meet the ever-growing need for bandwidth. So there comes a need of deploying DWDM network over the existing CWDM network. DWDM wavelengths have much smaller channel spaces (0.4nm/0.8nm/1.6nm) than CWDM 20nm channel space, so DWDM can provide larger bandwidth than CWDM. DWDM C-Band features the lowest fiber attenuation and standard optical EDFA amplifiers can be used to extend the bridgeable distance. At the meanwhile, DWDM overlap with CWDM band near the 1530nm and 1550nm. This overlap provides the possibility of combining DWDM with CWDM to increase network capacity. How to Build DWDM over CWDM Network CWDM 1530nm filter can cover DWDM channel wavelengths from 1528.77nm to 1538.19nm, commonly used 10 channels from 1529.55nm to 1536.61nm as DWDM multiplexer and de-multiplexer CWDM 1550nm filter can cover DWDM channel wavelengths from 1543.73nm to 1557.36nm, commonly used 8+8 total 16channels DWDM multiplexer and de-multiplexer.
