My motive for creating this easy tutorial was that setting up a Cricut machine for the first time is not easy. Especially when beginners are just getting started with their new machine, they find it a difficult task to complete. Therefore, since I am a crafter with years of experience, I can guide you in the best possible way. Also, I will try my best to save you time so that you can get started easily.
In this guide, I will first walk you through the system requirements and then stepwise through the entire setup process. Let’s get started now!
Minimum System Requirements to Set up a Cricut Machine
Before I take you to the steps on how to set up a Cricut, I want you to check the system compatibility. Confirm whether your Mac or Windows meets the basic requirements to run the Cricut Design Space app or not. Without this software, the setup is impossible. So, let’s take a look below:
For Mac
- Operating System – Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
- RAM – 4 GB
- CPU – Intel Dual Core or equivalent to AMD processor
- Display – 1024px x 768px screen resolution
- Disk – 2 GB free
- Connection Type: Bluetooth & USB
For Windows
- Operating System – macOS 11 or later
- CPU – 1.83 GHz
- Disk – 2 GB
- RAM – Minimum 4 GB
- Display – Minimum 1024px x 768px screen resolution

How to Set up a Cricut on Your Windows and Mac?
The Cricut Design Space app allows you to create a wide range of incredible designs and set up Cricut machines. Before downloading it, make sure your computer meets the above-mentioned requirements.
Step 1: Download Cricut Design Space
Here, I will start with the Windows computer to download the software:
For Windows
- Power on Cricut by plugging its power cable into the wall outlet.
- Next, turn on your PC and open any compatible browser, e.g., Google Chrome.
- After that, visit the URL design.cricut.com.
- Now, the URL will take you to the new page. Here, just hit the checkbox.
- Then, accept the T&C and hit the Download tab. Now, the download will start.
- Here, you should wait until the software is downloaded.
- Then, go to the folder in your file explorer that you chose to download the app.
- In the file explorer, you need to look for the file in the Downloads folder.
- Afterward, you should click on the file that you have downloaded and begin the installation.
- For further installation, go with the screen’s prompts.
For Mac
- The first six steps are the same as for Windows. Check the downloading steps for Windows described above.
- Once you have downloaded the Design Space software, head to the folder where you downloaded the .dmg file. By default, you will find it in the Downloads folder.
- Following, you need to double-click on the .dmg file to install it.
- In the end, drag the Cricut icon to the Applications folder to download the app.
Now, you know how to download Cricut Design Space for Mac and Windows. Since you have installed the software on your respective system, let’s launch it on our desktop and follow the further setup instructions given in the next steps.
Step 2: Begin the Cricut Setup Process
Finally, here’s how to set up a Cricut. Since we have downloaded the software, it’s time to launch it. Once you open the software on your system, you will see the following screen. Here, you have to click on that green Product Setup tab.
After that, you will need to move to a Create Cricut ID screen. Next, you have to create your new Cricut account. Once done, you will need to move further. As you move a step further, you will be prompted to the Welcome to Cricut setup page.Now, choose a Smart Cutting Machine as we are setting up a cutting machine.
Then, choose the device you are going to set up. For example, if you have a Cricut Maker 3, select it. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be asked to plug in your machine. Carefully plug the power cables into the wall outlet. Once done, let’s connect the Cricut machine to our computer.
Step 3: Connect Cricut to Windows/MacBook
For Windows
- Power on the Cricut machine and your PC.
- On your PC, you have to go to Settings > Devices.
- Now, enable your Bluetooth and click on “Add Bluetooth or other device.”
- After that, select Bluetooth on the next window screen.
- Wait and check if your Windows computer finds the nearby Cricut device.
- Once it has detected your Cricut, select it and complete the pairing.
For MacBook
- Turn on your MacBook.
- Select the Apple menu > System Preferences option.
- After that, turn on the Bluetooth.
- Now, wait for your Mac’s Bluetooth to find the nearby Cricut machine.
- Once detected, click on the machine and pair the Cricut with your Mac.

- Try closing any other program running on your device.
