Before applying for Grants you need to make sure that your home does not have cavity walls. A cavity is a common feature in brick homes that were built before 1924. It is likely that your property has solid walls if it was built prior to 1924. It is possible to find a cavity in your property if the walls are less that 250mm (10 ft). Properties built after 1982 should have cavity wall insulation.
If you think your property has Cavity Wall Insulation, you won't be eligible for a grant.
Cavity Wall Insulation will not be available to you if:
- Your property was constructed before 1924, or after 2005.
- Insulation is already in place on the walls.
- You can live in a flat with the consent of your neighbours above and below.
- Any damp spots can be seen on the walls.
- You can have the property timber/steel-framed or concrete. Or you can have it rock.
- Ventilation is not sufficient and can't be fitted.
- If your property has solid walls, they are more efficient than cavity walls. You may qualify for a grant to insulate your inner or external walls.
