Asunder

We mortals of color are so asunder
Calling, shouting at each other with a meaningless thunder,
While I find my lair, digging six feet under.
We humans of color are now asunder
With Jim Crow's venomous howling like a crack of thunder,
My sympathy, melancholy it may be, that the darker skin be so thrown over,
By the lighter skin, worshiped like goddesses full of wonder,
The dark skin; my love and soul born to sin, for them I start to ponder,
And follow them to a shadow, in which they wander.
We humans of color are so apart,
Segregated, stripping each other of our loving hearts,
Cold Civil War between us, purging into chaos,
And when it starts we lose a heavy loss, a painful loss at a dreadful cost,
As it begins to wage across.
We humans of color are now asunder,
Lost in an ignorance as the chaos lasts longer,
A victim of society's illness, feeding off of our hunger.
Us humans, we of color and diminishing virtue are knowingly asunder,
The darker and lighter skins discriminating one another,
Like children sitting at a table during supper
As our wise ancestors turn in their lairs
Six feet under.
