As well as an alloy made up of primarily Nickel and Copper. The presence of both these metals makes the Monel 400 resistant to seawater and steam at high temperatures. With the existence of copper, the alloy is prone to nitric acid and ammonia. At subzero temperature the Monel 400 has good mechanical properties, the melting point is set at 2370°-2460°F. The Carbon content here is maximum at 0.30% which is compromised due to Copper content which is 28-34% and Nickel is the most at 63.0%, and there is the absence of chromium, manganese is however 2.00%. The Tensile Strength of Monel 400 is 75-90ksi, and Yields up to 25-50ksi, and elongation of 60%.
Applications-
Monel 400 Sheets are mainly used in industries like De-aerating heaters, Marine engineering, Chemical and hydrocarbon processing equipment, Gasoline and, freshwater tanks, Boiler feedwater heaters and other, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, shafts, fittings, and fasteners, Industrial heat exchangers, Crude petroleum stills, Chlorinated solvents, Crude oil distillation towers. All these mentioned industries rely heavily on Monel 400 as it is an alloy that has the ability to withstand the harsh conditions and temperatures of the industries. This alloy is also stronger so generally it is meant to be used for such utilities.
