What is UNS S32205 Duplex Pipes?
Duplex 32205 is a two-phase, ferritic, austenitic stainless steel alloyed with 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5 to 6% nickel. It is the most popular duplex stainless steel grade and has a high yield strength that is double that of austenitic stainless steel grades that are typically utilised. Additionally, it exhibits excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion in harsh settings. It also has good fatigue strength.
The alloy has exceptional corrosion resistance to seawater and the majority of sulphuric acid concentrations. Additionally, UNS S32205 Duplex Pipes resists stress corrosion cracking due to sulphide (sour-gas environments). The high concentrations of chromium, nitrogen, and molybdenum present, as well as their combined effects on performance, are largely credited with contributing to UNS S32205's exceptional quality.
Benefit Of UNS S32205 Duplex Pipes
Corrosion Resistance
In most settings, Duplex S32205 has superior corrosion-resistant qualities to 316 and 316L because to its high amount of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen. Even in oxidizing and acidic conditions, the presence of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen offers strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Resistant to the stress corrosion cracking caused by chloride at temperatures as high as 302°F (150°C) Due to the presence of ferrite, Duplex S32205 performs well in caustic situations.
Heat Resistance
Duplex S32205 shares the same high temperature oxidation resistance as other duplex stainless steels. Duplex S32205 is not advised for usage above 572°F (300°C) since it is susceptible to brittleness when exposed to temperatures above that level, even for brief periods of time.
Process Good Weld Ability
Hot Forming
The majority of Duplex S32205 manufacturers suggest keeping the hot forming temperature at a maximum of 2010–2100°F (1100–1150°C). If the work piece is not compact in shape, the edges may be much cooler than the center, which increases the chance of cracking there.
Cold Forming
Good formability has been demonstrated for duplex S32205 in a number of fabrications. Problems may arise due to Duplex S32205's high strength. Even when the machinery is powerful enough, a higher spring-back induced by the grade's high strength must be taken into account.
