Feeling like someone is lying to you is a very unpleasant feeling. Although our instincts may be telling us one thing, how much can we really trust ourselves in these situations? If only we had some ways of knowing for sure if people were being truthful with us. In this video, we’ll show you some ways that you can tell if someone is telling you the truth by simply observing their body language. They say that the eyes are the window to the soul, but it turns out that a lot of what we thought we knew about eye movement and lying is incorrect and outdated, and we have the science to back it up. Instead, you may notice people’s blinking patterns changing dramatically when they lie. Find out what it means when their blinking slows down and when it speeds up. Symptoms of nervousness such as stammering, trailing off, and having trouble speaking are also not good signs. You might be surprised how much fidgeting can tell you about how truthful someone is being. In fact, it’s proven that this can be a more effective true detector than a polygraph test! So while watching someone’s face for clues can be helpful, you’ll also want to take a look at their hands as well. Besides their hands, you may notice their head moving quickly when you ask a question, and you may even notice inconsistencies between their body language and the words that they’re saying. If you spot someone nodding while telling you “no,” there’s a good chance they’re lying to you.
