Some women spend years pretending to be someone they are not. A loving partner, a perfect parent, a strong, self-assured woman of integrity who has her life together. I know, because I was one of them. Behind closed doors, though, I wasn’t winning any June Cleaver awards. I was a wreck.

I know now that strength of character cannot be built on secrets, lies and broken promises. It comes by living authentically and being honest with myself and the rest of the world about who I am, shortcomings, weaknesses and all. The day I started doing just that I finally found my sense of conviction, and I’m now living my life with integrity instead of just acting it out. I don’t need a June Cleaver award to prove I am doing it right – the smile on my kids’ faces when I keep my promises is proof enough for me.
