A scoring tool is a tool that helps you make amazing, crispy, and edgy folds on the materials. This wheel is one of the brand-new tools that the Cricut has revealed, and that tool is only adaptable to the Cricut maker machine. This amazing tool is also compatible with the adaptive tool system, which is Cricut’s new technology. The adaptive tool system also controls the blades’ direction and the wheels’ scoring at times. This fabulous technology can even modulate the pressure of the scoring wheel to match the materials you’re working with.
That is the only reason the scoring wheel has 10 times more power and strength than the scoring stylus. With the help of the Scoring Wheel, you can get extra score lines and depth.
Therefore, in this blog, we’ll show you how to load scoring wheel in Cricut Maker. But before that, we need to learn a few things about the scoring wheel itself.
Types of Cricut Scoring Wheel Tips
To get the best results, Cricut developed the scoring wheel with two different tips depending on the material you’re using, and the Cricut Design Space will recommend the best tip you should be using.
Tip 1: This tip is ideally best for light materials such as regular cardstock, print paper, and more.
Tip 2: The second tip is ideal for heavy/ coated materials like metallic poster boards, glitter cardstock, and chipboard.
How Do I Install The Scoring Wheel And Swap Tips
The installation of scoring tips on the drive housing is a process. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install the swap tips and the scoring wheel:
Step 1: First, start with getting the score wheel and then click on the plunge button at the top of the housing.
Step 2: While pressing the plunge button, look at the little knobs that come out of the housing. You will see two small holes inside the scoring tip, and this is the way they should be aligned.
Step 3: Don’t pull your hands pressing the plunge; pull the tip you want to install. After that, align the tip in a method that both stays flat, and the holes inside the tips and the knobs of the driving house are lined up flat.
And finally, leave the plunge and the installation process for the scoring wheel and change the tips. Please note that the scoring wheel will always go to the Clamp B of the tool holders. Now that you know some of the concepts of the scoring wheel, let us explain to you how to make a project with the help of the scoring wheel.

Steps On How To Load Scoring Wheel In Cricut Maker
We think that the best way to learn something is by following along step by step. We will make a pillow box to help you become a professional in the scoring wheel. Though, we highly recommend you follow us with the step-by-step process guide so that you’re all ready to tackle any project needing a scoring wheel. Also, we will also be sharing some of the tips and professional habits to perform when using the wheel.
Follow the below steps for the scoring wheel:
Step 1: Send And Put The Design On The canvas Area
First, open the Cricut Design Space area and send the template. To send the template, click on the upload file button located on the left-hand side of the Design Space canvas.
The above shows you how your design will look on the layer panel.
Step 2: Define The Scoring Lines, Connect, and Then Do
When you set the settings and set the cut command, black lines are required to score to be able to use the scoring wheel. To bring the black lines, we have to change the line type located at the top of the panel. To group the lines, click on the word group on the layer panel to select all the lines that we need to score and change the line type of the cut.
With the help of the below screenshot, you will be able to know how to do that:
After changing the line type for the score, it will be necessary for us to attach a pillow box and the scoring lines. It is a very crucial step; not performing it will make all the lines appear in the wrong mat and in a random space. When you’re attaching, you’re allotting the scrolling lines for the pillow box.
After clicking on the “make it” command, click on continue, then the cutting process will start immediately.
Step 3: Choose material
For this blog, we purposely used the Glitter Cardstock because it is crucial while working; you need a material with two sides, i.e., the attractive one and the plain one. It helps for scoring lines on the normal or the plain side. The major purpose for doing this is that after you score, it is necessary to fold the scoring lines. If not done, thick and coated materials can very easily be cracked.
To do this, we are required to mirror and locate our material with the attractive side downwards on the mat.
If you’re following it step by step and using the glitter cardstock as well, you can easily find it by searching all the materials, or you can also filter by using the keyword.
Step 4: Load Mat And Tools
After setting the material, load your tools. For this type of material, Cricut calls for tip 02. If you’re having just tip 1, or if you’re willing to score a stylus instead, then you can click on the edit tools option.
After clicking here, a little window pops up, allowing you to switch tools for what you have in your hand. Once you’re done with this, click on the “Go” button.
Step 5: Click On Go Button
Click on the Cricut logo on the Cricut Maker machine to start the cutting process. We are emphasizing this again, make sure that the glitter cardstock’s attractive side is placed downwards because the pillow box requires to be folded towards the scored lines.
Each time when you score anything, it will be required for you to score first. And as soon as your Cricut machine is done with the processing, a small window will pop up on the application, notifying you to install the blade. For this scenario, we are using a Fine Point Blade.
Step 6: Remove From Glue, Fold, And Mat
The best technique for removing anything from the mat is bending the mat, as shown in the picture below.
After this, we will fold or box. Always make sure that you always need to fold the score lines; that is the only reason to turn the mirror when you cut your project.
