Re: Time
Dear Editor,
Its my humble, uneducated opinion that we, as individuals and as a society. waste far too much time on activities that are unimportant, irrelevant and even downright trivial. I fear that many of us will look back at our lives, as our lives near the end, and wonder why, why we spent so much time doing what we did.
What might our lives have been, we will wonder, if we hadn’t wasted so much frickin time.
It’s apparent to me that we all waste time to some degree. Some a lot more than others. It also seems that time wasting is becoming ever more prevalent with each passing year, decade and generation.
Studies suggest that we will spend 25 years of our lives sleeping, 67 minutes each day eating and nearly three hours per day watching TV. Currently we spend 70% of our lives in front of digital media like TV, radio, the internet, multi media and video with the advancement of technology, the advent of new and exciting options and entertainment. God only knows how we will waste our time and how much time we will waste in the future.
Yes, it’s true – there are so many more ways to waste our time today than ever before. But time wasting, and ultimately how you spend your time is, to a very large degree, a choice. And it’s obvious that most of us will have to make better decisions or risk wasting away the only life we have.
Now I do realize that what constitutes wasted time is different for all of us. What I believe is a waste of time you may not. But honestly, if you really think about it, the things you currently do with your time is an absolute waste of your time.
I implore you to take a look at your life and how you spend your time. It may be the single most important think you do. Try to define what constitutes time well spent, activities that matter and a life well lived for you personally and compare that to the life you are currently living. Plan accordingly and make adjustments where and when necessary.
Don’t let life’s time wasters take advantage of you. Take advantage of your time and you’ll never have to ask ‘where did the time go’?
