Why Do Migraine Headache Symptoms Last So Long? This is a great question I hear often and the reason I started this article like this. Time and again patients come to me with this question, wondering why the headache lasts for 2 days, 3 weeks or even months without giving up?
Generally, migraine headache symptoms last 4-72 hours, and often a simple dose of anti-inflammatory medication and a good night's sleep can stop the headache. But if you're one of those chronically ill, you know that migraines... well... can last forever.
Migraines are often referred to by different terms, such as: Horton's neuralgia and estrogen withdrawal headaches

Significant migraines are associated with sensitivity to light, noise, and even sensitivity to smell. This is due to "central sensitization" in the brain. In other words, the nerves in your brain are too sensitive. You may experience nausea and vomiting, but other migraine symptoms may also occur. You may feel hungry or hungry. You can become irritable (yes… you mean?) and even feel confused. Your friends and family will tell you that you look confused and that your language may be blurry.
You may also feel your hands and feet cold and you feel a tingling sensation. Nasal congestion makes many people think they have a sinus headache. Not true! The same nerves that cause blood vessels to widen and constrict and pulse also terminate near the nasal tissue… hello stuffy nose!
Most migraine women also experience headaches during their menstrual cycle, which is a common migraine trigger. If your headaches occur during your menstrual cycle, you have something called a menstrual migraine. Another trigger for migraines is food and, of course, prolonged stress relief! Another cause of migraines that are difficult for many people is depression and other mood disorders. Depression is strongly associated with migraines.
