HAPPINESS
Sheri Smith
March 2, 2016
Through disappointments and accomplishments and many years of soul searching I've learned that happiness is not a place I am traveling to, nor a gift that someone else can give me.
It is for me, however, a gift in itself when I choose to acknowledge and harness the joy found in small, everyday pleasures. That gleeful heart-skip when I hear the sound of my children giggling. The warmth of my partner's hand when he impulsively reaches for mine in the movie theatre. The pungent aroma of rosemary when I'm cooking for my family in this tiny kitchen. The damp silence of my favorite bike path. The pleasure of a smile returned by a co-worker.
These are the things that I am grateful for, and being grateful in those moments, for me, is at the root of happiness.
Happiness, after all, is not a destination. It is a choice.
