The second part of the IELTS speaking test is a long round; it’s called a long turn because the examiner gives you a task card that includes a topic and instructions, so you have about one to two minutes to discuss everything on the task card. You actually perform a monologue for about 2 minutes without the help of an examiner.
The most common concern I encountered was, "What if I don't know anything about the subject?" The topic given is a general information topic, the topics are selected and standardized to make sure that everyone can respond to it.
Keep in mind that Task 2 of the IELTS Conversational Test focuses on the ability to speak at length on a given topic, using appropriate language and the ability to organize your ideas; very likely and recommended to try to use your experience to complete this task.
Quick guide to the Long Turn:
Use training time wisely - you will be given a minute to get ready for work. Use this time to read the card carefully and make notes on what topic. Just think of what is written on the card. This is not the time to dream or amaze your mind.
Organize your replay game - task cards have a series of questions that you need to answer, I recommend using this as a guide when trying to organize your thoughts.
Exercise, exercise, exercise - I don’t really think I can explain that, but being able to answer everything written on a task card in two minutes isn’t easy; most people find that two minutes is too short. Exercising with a watch or timer will help you get used to the allotted time.
Don’t get off topic - whether you find the topic too interesting or boring, try not to stray too far from the topic. You can hone your speaking skills with a wonderful institute that serves as world-class IELTS coaching classes in Pune.
