How many types of medical oxygen flowmeters are available in the market?

There are two types of Oxygen Flow Meter: the atmospheric pressure type and the constant pressure type.

Atmospheric pressure can only be used in low-flow systems. The constant pressure type can be used for both low flow rate and high flow rate systems.

If it is necessary to adjust the Medical Oxygen Flowmeter rate by 0.1 L/min at 2 L/min or less, such as COPD, use a low flow type oxygen flow meter.

Although it is almost indistinguishable from the outside, two points to distinguish between "atmospheric pressure type" and "constant pressure type" are shown below.

1. "Constant pressure type" has a display of "0.4 MPa" on the gauge tube with a scale.

1. Atmospheric pressure type

The "atmospheric pressure type" has a design structure in which the pressure inside the flow meter is maintained at almost atmospheric pressure (1 atm≒ 0.1 MPa). Therefore, if a device with a flow resistance, such as a high flow rate system, is used, more oxygen will flow than the oxygen flow rate set at the position of the top.

When using an "atmospheric pressure" flow meter, limit it to low flow systems (nasal cannula, face mask, reservoir mask).

1. Constant pressure

In the "constant pressure type," the piping pressure (0.4MPa) is applied to the pressure inside the flow meter. Therefore, even a high flow rate system with flow resistance (Venturi mask, etc.) can be used with an accurate Oxygen Flowmeter rate, so both high flow rate and low flow rate systems can be used.

In the "constant pressure type," the flow meter cover may deteriorate and explode if pressure is applied for a long period of time. Therefore, please remove it from the oxygen pipe and store it after use.

1. Others (low flow rate type)

In addition to the above two types, there is also a "low flow rate type" oxygen flow meter. This is used when it is necessary to adjust the oxygen flow rate by 0.1 L/min at 2 L/min or less, such as COPD, and when making fine adjustments that cannot be done with a normal flow meter (scale of 1 L/min).
