Ahead of the national election in Pakistan, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his cabinet colleague Shah Mehmood Qureshi have been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the cipher case.
Pakistani court sentences former prime minister Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to ten years in jail in a state secrets case, as per local media.
Earlier, Pakistani police fired tear gas and arrested dozens of demonstrators gathered to support jailed ex-PM Imran Khan and to protest attempts to keep his PTI party out of the 2024 elections.
The cipher case relates to revealing official secrets after being ousted from office in April 2022.
