It’s the metal that wraps around my pale neck in a thin chain,
Holding a simple teardrop pendant that’s stained
With tarnish marks that mirror the person I am deep inside myself.
I am simply silver, I will never be the uniquely beautiful glistening gold
That everybody chases after in hopes
Of somehow making themselves something They’re really not.
And we’ve been told from a young age that each person is special
But in a world where even the most diverse share the simple trait of being human
Is there even a way for someone to be anything more than that?
I am simply silver, the lesser metal
But don’t take that as not being important because
I don’t need uniqueness when it is when I am an alloy
That I am at my strongest.
It takes a group for me,
For all of the silvers, irons and coppers of the world to fulfill their potentials
Of carrying the powers of electricity, the passion of heat, the love in a man’s wedding band.
And even as we watch the golds as they are showered in praise
They hide the secret
That they too are weak when they seperate themselves.
So even if you feel that you aren’t special enough to deserve kindness
Remember that you too are human, and that you too hold the power of a metal
And finding those who need help too, who need the binding powers of an alloy, you may harness powers unimaginable to you now.
