I'm so excited to tell you about this event! It's a cultural event honoring Oscar Micheaux's legacy as the first African American to produce and direct his film.
Have you heard of the Micheaux Film Festival? It's a film festival for filmmakers of African descent, and it's named after a man named Oscar Micheaux. He was the first African-American filmmaker to produce and direct his own film.
Oscar Micheaux was born on October 31st, 1884 in Metropolis, Illinois. As a child, he was always interested in reading and writing. When he was 10 years old, he started his own newspaper called "The Colored Student". When he turned 18 years old, he moved to Chicago where he worked as a waiter and reporter until he got married in 1910.
His first film was called The Homesteader (1919) which featured an African-American farmer who fights against prejudice while trying to farm his land in Kansas during the time period when slavery had ended but before civil rights laws were created to protect minorities from discrimination at work or school. This movie showed how hard life was for African-Americans even though they had freedom from slavery under President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation."
Micheaux Film Festival is a film festival that celebrates the works of filmmakers of African descent. It was founded by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and his wife, Keisha Nash-Abdul-Jabbar. The festival was named after Oscar Micheaux, an African American filmmaker who made over 41 films in his lifetime. He became the first African American to produce and direct his own film, "The Homesteader" in 1918.
The Micheaux Film Festival is held every year at UCLA's James Bridges Theater in Los Angeles, California. Each year, the event features film screenings, panel discussions and networking opportunities for filmmakers of color.
