Listen, we all have different ideas of what a healthy lifestyle is and that’s fine. I mean, me, I eat a bag of candy and then go to the gym and call it balance. Drink some wine, walk dog longer. You see what I mean. When it comes to your health, things are personal. You do you. What healthy will look like is unique to you, and what’s healthy for you may not be what’s healthy for another. But that’s okay!
Instead of comparing your healthy efforts to another’s (if you don’t live off of candy, you’re already doing better than me). Work out what a healthy lifestyle looks like to you, because it’s your damn life! For me, the best way to figure out a balance is to think as holistically as possible. Health isn’t just one thing. There are a range of elements that make up healthy, very much outside of just food and fitness and candy and wine. Here are a the things I (TRY) to think about for my own healthy-ish life!
Drinking Water
Duh. We all know this. Drink water. If you don’t then you’re going to want to understand the importance of water for your health. It’s easy to overlook it and also wine tastes better. But, our bodies are made up of water (also duh). So it’s important for you to be able to keep your stores replenished. When you’re properly hydrated, you’ll find that you feel more energized, that your muscles feel stronger, and that your mind feels sharper (yay!) And even things like your skin and hair will look and feel healthier too. I drink water constantly, in hopes that it’ll stave off the wrinkles.
Balanced Diet
And then there’s your diet. Come on, you know that this is important. Because if you want to lead a healthy lifestyle, you need to make sure that you’re feeding your body the wide range of nutrients it needs. But it should be balanced! Make sure that you’re getting the proteins and the carbs that you need (less candy carbs, more good carbs). And then there’s supplements; try something like tangy tangerine 2.0 if you have trouble eating all the nutrients you need. When you’re actually aware of nutrition and what foods do for your body, it’s much easier to make balanced choices here. Yes, I realize I need to take my own advice. Could probably use a nutritionist. Someone help me?
Exercise
Oh boy, another obvious one. We all know that we need to make sure we’re moving our bodies, right? Wherever possible (even if you don’t have a gym, do it at home… here’s a workout for you)! Exercise does help your body to stay strong and healthy. It also helps your mindset too. Feel grumpy? Go workout! So look to work in movement, classes (helloooo Zumba), workouts, sports, or walking into your life as much as you feel is necessary.
Stress Management
Now, it’s also soooo important to acknowledge that stress can cause a ton of issues with your health levels. And if you are someone that tends to suffer from down spells or your mood is very easily influenced, you will need to work to manage that. You can check out my post here on how to manage stress. Don’t forget to figure out what triggers your stress and find ways to manage those, too! In my opinion, a holistic, healthy life is all about happiness. Work to remove stress from your life, so that you can be as healthy as possible.
Emotional Fulfillment
It’s also important for you to be thinking about the emotional side of things here too. It’s definitely not all about your body and what you eat. However, most of us associate health with our inner workings and our waistlines. Emotions matter too, fools! Don’t be like me and try to bottle your emotions. If you’re not emotionally healthy, it can really impact your mental state. So it’s important to nurture your relationships, to check in with yourself, and to ensure that your needs are fulfilled.
I don’t have all the answers, but in general I’m a pretty happy person. I’m trying my best to live a balanced life and these are the main things I consider. Hopefully you can check in with yourself and figure out whether or not you’re considering all these aspects of your health, too!
