Surgical abortion, also referred to as suction aspiration abortion, is a one-day procedure performed in a doctor's office, especially if it's within the first 14 weeks since the first day of your last menstrual period. First Trimester Abortion in 12 weeks or until the 14th week gives more chances of abortion without any complications.
Your Private and Supportive Environment:
Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed into a private and discreet environment. The Women’s Center for Pregnancy Options ensures the privacy and safety of its patients. The center is seamlessly integrated into the general Women's Health Center practice, maintaining confidentiality throughout the process.
Preparation Process:
At the beginning of your appointment, the center will verify insurance information, collect any applicable co-payment, and have you complete the necessary forms, including a medical history. The check-in process is designed to be efficient, respecting your time and maintaining a private atmosphere.
Shortly after your arrival, a female health educator will take you to a private room. Here, you'll engage in a health education session covering pregnancy options, details about the abortion procedure, and discussions about various birth control methods. You'll stay entirely clothed during this educational session. The health educator will check your blood pressure, pulse, and weight.
The health education session will be followed by a consultation with the doctor. These medical practitioners are obstetricians and gynecologists who specialize in family planning and abortion services. In addition to closely reviewing your medical history, the doctor will likely prescribe any necessary drugs and do an ultrasound to determine the exact stage of your pregnancy.
Medication Administration:
A range of oral pain medications will be recommended for you. Vicodin, Valium, and Ibuprofen are the most often used kind if you are less than 12 weeks pregnant. In addition, your doctor will likely give misoprostol, a medicine used in first-trimester surgical abortions, if your pregnancy is between 12 and 14 weeks along in order to help expand your cervix.
Waiting Period:
You might have to wait for the drug to start working, depending on your gestation. You are welcome to unwind in your accommodation or in the authorized waiting rooms during this time. The time spent waiting guarantees that your body is ready for the operation.
The Procedure Itself:
After you're entirely at ease, the doctor will walk you through the process. You will put on a patient gown and undress starting at the waist. You can have your support person with you the entire time.
The doctor will clean your vagina, examine it with a speculum, numb your cervix, dilate it, and then introduce a thin, flexible tube into your uterus to remove the pregnancy tissue. The complete treatment takes around 15 to 20 minutes, of which the suction part takes about a minute.
Recovery:
Following the procedure, it's important to take a brief rest. It's normal to experience spotting and cramps during this time. The facility provides amenities like drinks, crackers, a menstrual pad, and a warming pack to enhance your comfort. Once you feel ready, you can proceed to get dressed. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics and, if necessary, birth control. Additionally, the health educator will provide guidance on post-procedure care.
Follow-Up:
There's typically no need for follow-up office visits unless issues occur. For essential checkups, such as pap screenings, physical or gynecologic examinations, and requests for birth control refills, the Women’s Center advises making an appointment with a usual physician.
This all-inclusive method guarantees that every stage of the surgical abortion procedure is considerate, encouraging, and centered on your well-being.
